Cleary the internet gods thought it was inappropriate to blog prior to this!!! With spotty internet and slow bandwidth I was beginning to doubt my pledge of conducting a photo journal. We’re currently in a small town called Barberton which is in the Mpumalanga area of South Africa (North Eastern) area of the country. Weather wise the temperature is about 70 degrees F, overcastted and have rained the incessantly the past 2 days. As this quaint mountainous countryside slowly goes into its winter I’ve been more convinced that I’ll need to go shopping for a new wardrobe. Clearly I’ve packed inappropriately as everything in my suitcase ranges from short sleeves to more short sleeves as well as shorts, tank tops and leggings!!! Not sure i'm going to be wear leggings for awhile b/c i've consumed SOOOOOO MUCH food (favorites so far being pumpkin fritters dribbled with amarula sauce YUMMY,  malva pudding with amarula sauce, TONS of red meat (ostrich, crocodile, mopani worms (only tasted NOT MY FAVORITE), wilderbeest, warthog, beef, lamb --- I’m seriously contemplating becoming a vegetarian upon my return for at least 2 months in order to purge my system from its carnivorous ways.

Today we’ll be heading to a gold mine (mine # 3 thus far on our trip – others being chrome and platinum --- too bad the weather was horrible (more rain) was really looking forward to finding the perfect platinum nugget to transport back stateside…maybe my luck will be better this time!

Unfortunately I’ll have to conclude this short entry as its 7:45am and we have 45mins to get ready for our first daily excursion.

Cheers,

JB
