Here are a few videos to give you a glimpse of life in New Fairfield, Connecticut.
I am always amazed by the people I meet, the places I find and the experiences I have, just by reaching out and networking. This opportunity to participate in GSE, for instance, presented itself when I attended a Chamber of Commerce business to business expo. I approached the Rotary booth because I was looking for a place to volunteer and knew that Rotary was a service organization. I attended a club meeting and upon hearing that I love to travel, explore and learn, Rotarian Alex DeLucia suggested that the GSE program would be a good fit for me. Just yesterday, I was meeting with someone at the Chamber and I mentioned how disillusioned I was with the incessant snowy weather and that I couldn't wait to get away to South Africa. "There's a South African restaurant that just opened. You have to check it out!" He exclaimed. I went there for lunch immediately following our meeting! My friend and I ate a meal of bobotie (a spiced minced meat with an egg-based topping), cinnamon-spiced yellow rice with raisins and yams. The meal was flavorful and seriously delicious. Funny thing is, I had tried bobotie while living in The Netherlands and loved it, so I was excited to see it on the menu at A Taste of South Africa in Danbury, CT. According to this recipe, "no self-respecting South African housewife does not own (and treasure!) a favourite bobotie recipe."
I also ate pie--savory chicken in a flaky crust that resembled a turnover in size and structure. My friend had a chicken, beef AND sausage pie. I ate it so fast that I forgot to take a picture... Needless to say (hm, then why am I still saying it??), I'm really looking forward to trying more South African cuisine. |
